Modafanil

Modafinil (Provigil®) is a medication that can be used to treat excessive sleepiness. Specifically, it is used to promote wakefulness in people with shift work sleep disorder, narcolepsy, and sleep apnea. It is made by Cephalon, Inc. Modafinil tablets, which are available by prescription, are generally taken once a day.
 
Most people tolerate this medicine well, but side effects may occur. Possible side effects include headaches, anxiety, nausea, and insomnia, among others. For the medication to work, it must be taken as prescribed.
